The more they try to erode my country and my culture, the more I will shout it from the rooftops. They will have to take it from my cold, dead hands!

Charlie, that was such a moving tribute to what it is to be English. I am fairly antique now but hope you will be one of the Gen Z movers and shakers who will lead our country forwards - or do I mean backwards? - to ensure my grandchildren still have an England left to love and cherish. Thank you. Your interview with Peter Whittle on NCF, which I have belonged to for a while, was inspiring and positive - l forwarded it to several disheartened friends after listening to it twice! Rupert Brooke’s England never looked less accessible but it’s up to you and other courageous young contemporaries (and perhaps the likes of Rupert Lowe and Robert Jenrick) to make it so! Good luck and thanks!

St George wasn’t English. In fact, he never even visited England.

And they've got the cheek to charge you a student debt for it!

Many would say you are the problem, not the solution. A sense of history is one thing. Such a pity that many build it into something that it is not.

You may sense the feet of those who have walked there before you. To imagine they all felt as you do is a fiction of your own devising.
